Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has disclosed his government’s plans to establish more agricultural estates in parts of the states.

He said these estates will include the ones for coffee, oil palm and cocoa amongst others.

He also disclosed plans to establish a dedicated Cash Crop Development Agency within four months, and constitution of a Produce Inspection Board within three months.

He disclosed that the establishment of the new estates will be  in collaboration with some development partners for their technical input and collaborative support in shaping the strategic roadmap.

The governor spoke in his office when he received the revised Produce Law Report and a comprehensive seven-year Strategic Development Plan for Cocoa, Oil Palm, and Coffee.

According to the governor, actions the establishment will begin  with  engagement with investors in July 2025 for the rollout of steps towards the  agricultural estates across the state.

Otu said the estates will illustrate their determination to reposition the State as a dominant force in global agricultural exports.

He explained that the plan, presented by the Multi-Stakeholder Committee on Strategic Plan Development, outlines a robust framework to transform Cross River into a global hub for sustainable, traceable agro-production.

He said, “Together, we want to build a Cross River that feeds, employs, exports, and thrives—beginning with the soil beneath our feet,” Otu declared.

Chairperson of the Strategic Committee, Prof. Susan Ohen, emphasized that the plan was designed with global standards in mind, incorporating traceability and certification requirements to boost export readiness.
