Cross River State Governor’s wife says remodeling Calabar markets to ensure modern standards

Wife of Cross River State Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu has explained that efforts to remodel local markets in the state capital, Calabar, are to ensure that they meet modern standards.
She spoke while commissioning newly built 120 stalls in Akim Market in Calabar.
“The significance of this structure reflects our commitment to ensuring that our markets meet the needs of a modern society while preserving the vibrancy and vitality of our cultural and economic heritage”, she said.
According to her, the remodelled Akim Market structures have been designed with consideration for functionality, safety, and convenience.
She said that the development has created a conducive environment for commerce and trade to thrive in the city.
She added that by modernizing the market structures, “we aim not only to enhance the trading environment but also to alleviate the challenges faced by market users and sellers.”
Also speaking at the event, the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality and Ndidem of the Quas, HRM Ndidem ETA Bassey Eteta (III) welcome the development.
The monarch said “It is a good thing that Her Excellency has the market at heart because these days, very few people do. This will not be forgotten in a hurry. On behalf of the Akim community and Calabar Municipality, I want to say thank you.”
