The Cross River State government has called on the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to help in its image laundering even as the Senator Ben Ayade’s administration nears its end.

Head of Service, Mr. Timothy Ogbang Akwaji made the call and described members of the NIPR whose executives paid him courtesy call as change agents and professionals in the image-making industry.

He regretted that the image of government has sometimes suffered battering because of lack of appreciating efforts of Government.

He charged NIPR to partner the state government in showcasing and disseminating information on the government’s achievements to ensure its activities “sink into the psyche of Cross Riverians as well as non-Cross Riverians”.

He used the opportunity to highlight the Ayade’s industrialization drive, saying it is geared towards creating employment opportunities for unemployed youths in the State.

Akwajii noted that the Civil Service alone cannot absorb “all the army of unemployed youths being churned out from Institutions”, noting that the State Governor is using the comparative advantage the State has in Agriculture to create employment opportunities for its unemployed youths.

He stressed the need for mentorship and frowned at workers who hoard knowledge and skills acquired in order to remain relevant and subsequently seek extension of service.

Earlier, chairman of NIPR in the state, Mr. Ben Okache, said the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the Head of Service on his appointment and appealed for the institutionalization of the Public Relations cadre in the Service.
