Chief Bola Tinubu accused of sabotaging economic recovery
The Empowerment for Unemployed Youths Initiative and 17 other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have accused the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmed Tinubu and others of plotting to frustrate the ongoing economic recovery policies championed by the reappointed Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, for personal gains.
Recall that there was mixed reactions when President Muhammadu Buhari reappointed the Governor of the apex bank for a second term. While some praised the appointment others condemned it.
But addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, National Coordinator of the Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative, Solomon Adodo accused Senator Bola Tinubu and others of sponsoring media attacks on the CBN Governor following a failed effort to pocket the apex bank in furtherance to personal and political gains.
He said it was regrettable that despite the laudable policies put in place that saw the nation come out our recession and several others that are lifting Nigerians out of poverty, those who should know better will rather chose to constitute obstacle to the economic recovery and development.
“The Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative welcomed with deep appreciation the reappointment of Mr. Emefiele for a second tenure as Governor of CBN. This well deserved reappointment is indeed a timely masterstroke to ensure the stability and gradual improvement of the Naira against other world currencies while strengthening the base for rapid economic growth and national development which will birth more jobs for the youth.
“We are however utterly saddened and dismayed at the fact that some detractors masquerading as whistleblowers have filled the media space with spurious allegations against the person of Godwin Emefiele. These fiendish elements by their actions have exposed themselves as enemies of the economic recovery and progress recorded by the Buhari-led administration in the last four years.
“We wish to use this medium to warn these detractors to desist from their actions which are antithetical to the economic prosperity of our nation. As a group that has benefited from the sound monetary and economic policies marshaled out under the watch of Emefiele as CBN Governor, we shall not fold our arms and watch while pseudo-patriots labor to reverse the gains recorded thus far. We are also not unaware of the fact that the grand plan of these negative masterminds is to subtly work at destabilizing the good government of President Muhammad Buhari, bring Nigeria to economic ruins and wrest power at all costs.
“Our scrupulous findings have traced the needless concerted attacks against the CBN Governor to Sen. Bola Tinubu who is bent on controlling the CBN amongst other Agencies all in a bid to build a financial war chest ahead of the 2023 presidential elections. We make bold to state that this is unpatriotic, statesmanlike and at cross purposes with the tenets of democracy and good governance. The several statements credited to Tinubu on the 2023 presidential elections are a huge distraction to the government of President Buhari who is just about to commence his second tenure. At any rate we must remind the concerned public and all those mounting pressure that President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to hand-over power to the youth come 2023,” the group noted.
