Customs impound N92.5m contraband in Kwara, Kogi

The Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) North Central Zone, Sector 3, Ilorin, Kwara State Capital of the Nigerian Customs Service, has seized contraband worth N92, 547,752.00 within five months.

The Coordinator for the border patrol team, Sector 3. Comptroller Olugbeyega Peters on 11th August, who took journalists round of the Sector 3 commands of the service said the seizures were in fulfilment of the Customs and Excise Management Act Cap C45 LFN 2004 (CEMA) as amended guides the operations of the team, who have far conducted duties with professionalism and efficiency

He said the seizures, which covered between April and August , included Six Hundred and Fifty (650) bags of 60 liters each of diesel concealed with sawdust which he describes as a laudable feats.

Giving down the breakdown of the intercepted items at the command, Peters said “Eighty (82) seizures of different items. These include- 650 Sacks of 60liters each of Diesel (39,000 liters), 1,735 Bags of foreign parboiled Rice of 50Kg each, 1,415 Jeri cans of 25 liters of Petroleum Products each (36,525 liters), 33 Used Vehicles, 12 Bales of worn clothing, 10 Motorcycles”.

Conducting journalists round the seized contraband goods within the premises of the Nigeria Customs Service, North Central, Sector 3 Command, Cpt Peters said that Duty Paid Value on seized goods under the command was N92,5m

The Customs officer expressed gratitude to the customs officials for thier moral and logistical approaches.

He however added that , the Sector under his watch will continue to be at the forefront of anti- smuggling activities and will not relent on their oars to make the smuggling activities unattractive to the teeming youth.
