The Adamawa State chapter of African Democratic Congress, (ADC), has inaugurated its state interim executive committee to pilot the affairs of the party until it’s substantive executive committee.
Addressing the crowd of members, the chairman of the occasion, National Zonal Vice Chairman in charge of the North East region and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir said, despite the little skirmishes in the party, critical stakeholders have agreed to form this interim leadership with a view to hitting the ground running as the 2027 elections around the corner.
The former SGF during late President Muhammadu Buhari, noted that the newly inaugurated leadership was borne out of legitimate due process approved by the National Working Committee (NWC).
Babachir also revealed that the NWC of the ADC had approved the new structure and warned that the party would not tolerate acts of indiscipline or defiance. “The new leadership is the substantive one because due diligence has been followed in line with the constitution of the party.
“The national chairman of the party, Senator David Mark, has assured all and sundry that ADC will be governed strictly according to constitutional provisions, noting that anyone who disagrees with that has no place in this party,” he said.
He therefore called on party faithful to uphold peace and unity within ADC and that, “every politician is entitled to be insulted, it is our right, but it should not affect the way we behave,” he added.
In an acceptance speech, the interim chairman of the party, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for finding him and his team worthy to take the party to a greater height in the political equation of the state and as well the nation.
A former Federal lawmaker and former Speaker of the Adamawa State Assembly, pledged to use his experiences and exposure in fostering unity and inclusivity within the party, plegding ensuring youths and women are given special attention in the party. And described his emergence as “a child of necessity,” and urged the aggrieved members to join hands with his leadership in changing the fortune of the party in the state.
According to him, “As we take leadership of this great party, I want to assure you, 60 percent of elective positions in the coming congresses will be reserved for women and youth, in recognition of their strategic importance to the success of the party. “My administration would conduct transparent and credible congresses across wards and local governments in Adamawa,” Dasin affirmed.
Recalled that the African Democratic Congress has been facing a leadership crisis for a while as the party was factionalized by the Shehu Yohanna-led and Mustapha Arabi-led factions.
