‘Desist from peddling malicious information against former Minister of Power’

By Celestine Ihejirika Jalingo

Constant malicious information peddling against former Minister of Power and an illustrious son of Taraba State, Engr. Sale Mamman, has been described as unwarranted and warned that enough is enough.

To this end, detractors and agents of doom bent on dragging his name to the mud before the court determination of the case have been also warned to desist from misleading the public or face the consequences.

A concerned citizen, Musa Muhammad stated this while speaking with our correspondent in Jalingo on Tuesday.

Muhammad’s reaction followed an alleged malicious information dished out by one of the private radio broadcast media houses in Jalingo a few days ago, came-up with a misleading item claiming that the erstwhile Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman, expended N20 million in the settlement of hotel bills for one year as minister and N33 billion funds meant for the Mambila Hydro-electric power project in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State was misappropriated also by the minister was uncalled for.

According to Muhammad, Mamman never frustrated the execution of the project intended to galvanize and speed-up the development process in Taraba State, North-east region, Northern part of Nigeria and the country at large but expressed dismay that the broadcast house was subsequently lifted and reposted on various social media platforms in the state and beyond.

The latest being on Thursday, 28th and Friday, 29th November, 2024, Musa observed “we are aware that the issue concerning the former minister of power is at Federal High Court in Abuja, we had for quite some time preferred not to comment or pre-empt the court judgment, but we felt obliged to strengthen the record because of the seeming endless attacks and name-calling on this illustrious son of Taraba State”.

“As a matter of fact, two reasons motivated the response on the misleading information by the radio broadcast medium, its agents and sponsors, first is the fact that the attack on engr. Mamman by people mostly detractors and agents of doom and their hired ones against allowing the court to determine his case, second reason is because the mischievous information being peddled on some social media platforms which keeps reappearing now and then necessitate the need to strengthen the facts and expose the hiding hypocrisy contained in the news review by the broadcast medium and simultaneously disseminated by coterie of social media platforms for the benefit of the unsuspecting general public who might have hitherto believed in the malicious submission by the radio and social media platforms”, he stated.

He further described as mischievous, wickedness and unimaginable of the highest proportion, dishing out false information against the minister, claiming to have acquired choice properties in Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Yola and Jalingo just within two years in office.

Muhammad recalls sometime in August 2019, the then Senate President, Alhaji Ahmad Lawan in a BBC Hausa service interview emphatically made it clear that the issue of the Mambila Hydro-electric power project had become subject of arbitration as the initial firm handling the project before the coming on board of the Chinese firm had taken the matter to the court and thereby wondered why Sale Mamman’s name was dragged to the mud even when he was not the accounting officer of the ministry as at the time the said allege diversion of funds was reported.
