fm, Ilorin, Michael Olanrewaju has charged Nigerian political elites to strive hard in building future leadership among the children.
Welcoming the crowd to the Children Day funfare celebration at the Diamond Park and Gardens in Ilorin, he said, “this year’s Children Day theme- “unite to reverse the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children” is apt considering the global disaster wrought and challenges confronting nations.
He added that the theme is in tandem with the child rights to survival and development irrespective of their status and situations which is universal.
In the celebration, 15 students shortlisted out of 1,550 that put in for essay competition were made to write final one in the radio boardroom. Adeloye Enoch of Sekinah Glory Basic School, Ilorin emerged as the best writer, followed by Moshood Muhammed of Brain Field School land Also Fatimoh of Reputable International School in the age 6-8 years category. Adeyemi Abdulhakeem of Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model School came first followed by Mamudu Cherish Elizabeth of Kingdom Model School, Olulade, Ilorin as second and Olorunfemi Opemipo of Pearls International School as third in the 9-11 year of age category.
Adeleke Michael Kunle of Excellent International School came first followed by Nkama, Chinyere Eko of MCI Coaching Institute as second and Emmanuel Ininoluwa of Ilorin Grammar School as third in the 12-15 years age category.
Other events include chess and scrabbles proudly sponsored by the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Ogu Ejidike,JP where Adisa Ayomide of Lasoju Comprehensive High School emerged as winner in senior chess category followed by Lawal Abdulrasheed, and Durosawo Justus respectively. In the Chess junior category, Abdulsalam Abdulsalam of Havillah Private Basic School emerged winner followed by Muhammed Suleiman of His Grace Group of Schools and Aminullah Abdulsalam of Havillah Private Basic School respectively.
In the game of Scrabbles, Sulyman Hikmah emerged winner in Senior category followed by Muhammed Islamiyah and Olojoku B. Sufyan. Olomu Olamide Hassan won the junior category followed by Feruke Munirah and Olojoku Wura Hadijah respectively.
