The Administrator, Anambra State Hospital Management Board, Enugwu- Ukwu, Dr. Richmond Achugbu has described COVID-19 pandemic as a monster, mainly targeting doctors and other medical personnel.
“I urge you to be very careful,” Dr. Achugbu said this while addressing all heads of government hospitals in the State during their monthly meeting at the General Hospitals Hall, Enugwu-Ukwu.
He urged doctors to take all precautionary measures and treat every patient as a COVID-19 suspect.
“Ensure you properly put on your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before attending to any patient as this will protect you and others from any harm.
“Adhere to all prescriptions on how to prevent COVID-19 bearing in mind that we happen to be the target of the monster.”
Dr. Achugbu praised the doctors for their sacrifices in saving lives especially at this period of the pandemic, emphasizing that they put their own lives in danger.
“I appreciate you, who are at the forefront of the ‘battle dodging the bullet,’ at the same time taking good care of the sick; it is a sacrifice.
“I pray that at the end of this pandemic, there will be no deaths among us, so keep doing the good work.”
He lamented that senior doctors were retiring without any replacement but was optimistic that the government would respond to requests for urgent recruitment.
Dr. Achugbu noted that many hospitals were facing security challenges and called on the Government for prompt intervention to stop hoodlums from further looting of hospital equipment.
