‘Don’t panic,’ University of Jos clarifies report of rumoured bomb attack
By Anthony Maliki, Abuja
The Management of the University of Jos has expressed concern over the undue panic caused by a widespread circulation of the memo on social media.
The University Administration stressed that the document in question was strictly for the University’s security personnel, aimed at heightening awareness and vigilance as a pre-emptive measure.
In a statement by university’s Senior Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, Abdullahi Abdullahi made available to Apex News Exclusive, the management acknowledged the recent distress caused by reports circulating on various Social Media platforms.
The reports suggested that the University is a target for a purported bomb attack alongside other areas of the Jos Metropolis.
According to Abdullahi, the reports, which stemmed from an internal memo, were erroneously shared beyond their intended audience.
The statement emphasized that there is no immediate threat to the university, and measures are being taken to ensure that the campus is safe and secure for teaching and learning.
In addition, the statement stressed, the university administration is actively collaborating with the Plateau State Police Command and other security agencies to ensure the continued safety and well-being of everyone in our institution and its surroundings.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to refrain from spreading unfounded information that may further cause alarm,” the Senior Deputy Registrar noted.
He pointed out that further updates and information can be accessed through the University’s website www.unijos.edu.ng and other official communications from the university.
