Anambra State’s Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and illegal street traders in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
The suspects, 28-year-old Uchenna Benjamin from Imo State and 21-year-old Clinton Asiegbu from Abia State, were caught during a demolition exercise targeting shanties used for illegal activities.
During interrogation, Benjamin confessed to selling different types of hard drugs, including marijuana. “I have been in this business for a while. I sell all kinds of hard drugs,” he admitted.
Asiegbu, a former mechanic apprentice, revealed that he abandoned his job for drug peddling due to higher financial gains.
“I left my job as a mechanic when I discovered that selling drugs pays better,” he admitted.
The OCHA Brigade recovered illicit substances, including marijuana and other harmful narcotics, at the scene. Managing Director Mr. Celestine Anere reiterated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to ridding Anambra State of illegal drug activities and ensuring a clean and safe environment.
The suspects have been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
This operation is part of the State government’s efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order in Anambra State.
