Electoral bill: Adamawa Governor, Fintiri accuses President Buhari, APC of conspiracy to destroy democracy

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has pointed accusing finger on President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet of staging a coup against democracy for his refusal to assent to the electoral bill.

He equally accused the ruling APC said this is one of the contentious issues in the electoral bill which seeks to provide electoral reforms is the provision that stipulates all political parties to adopt direct primaries to open up the democratic space and to enhance transparency in leadership process.

Fintir stated this while receiving members of APC who dumped the party for PDP including a state house of Assembly member who said, the action was informed by the innate fear by APC of losing election come 2023 at all levels.

Governor accordingly said, the National Assembly has on November 19, sent the electoral bill to president Muhammadu Buhari for assent but the president refused to assent the bill saying that it will cause chaos, confusion and is expensive to implement among other reasons.

He noted that, “We are not surprised by the action of Buhari and APC because of the level of decadence that this government, particularly the federal government, has brought into our system destruction of our economy, destruction in infrastructures, security and youth development.”

Fintiri fumed that, “They are ganging up to destroy our democracy by encouraging the President not to assent to the electoral bills because they are afraid of 2023.”

He charged Nigerians to come together to stop the conspiracy of some stalwart of the APC who are scheming to destroy the country’s democracy and development.

“We have to come together as people to fight this monsters and rescue our democracy because it is the only way out,” he added.

The governor used the occasion to flag off 6.4 kilometer road in Mubi, which would decongest the traffic jam that usually occur on the road on daily basis.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Tahir Shehu, in his remark at the event said that the governor has made it easier for the party to campaign and bring more people into the party due to his infrastructural development in the state.
