Ernest Tarbo takes over as new coordinator Taraba NHIA

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Taraba State Office has welcomed a new Coordinator, Mr. Ernest Terungwa Tarbo, who assumed office on Monday, September 29, 2025, succeeding Alhaji Mohammed Aminu Ardo, who had steered the office since January 2023. This change in leadership heralds a new era in the state’s pursuit of quality healthcare insurance for its residents.

Mr. Tarbo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, with a strong background in management, administration, health insurance, and tax accounting. A distinguished professional, he holds membership in prestigious bodies such as the institute of Health Insurance & Managed Care of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Economist of Nigeria and the Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management.

His academic credentials are equally impressive, having earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Bingham University in 2020, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the same institution in 2019, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics from Benue State University in 2000. Mr. Tarbo’s professional journey includes serving as Head of Division (System Administration) at NHIA, Head of Department (Programmes) in the National Health Insurance Authority, and Head of Department (Marketing) at NHIA, alongside various rolesly at the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue.

Notable for his actuarial skills in assessing risk and determining insurance premiums, Mr. Tarbo is adept in policy evaluation and cost-benefit analysis of healthcare programs. He possesses strong human resource management and leadership capabilities, coupled with expertise in tax assessment and audit. His affiliations include membership of Rotary Club, and he has been involved in several state committees and initiatives.

His interests include traveling and researching. The appointment of Mr. Ernest Terungwa Tarbo is anticipated to bolster NHIA’s mission to provide and enhance healthcare insurance to the people of Taraba State, leveraging his extensive experience and professional prowess to drive positive change and improve healthcare access in attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
