Estate Surveyors called for mandatory development in resolving land conflicts

The 2021 mandatory continuing development seminar with the theme “Land conflicts and consequences in internally generated revenue” was organized by the state branch of the Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers to develop strategies towards galvanising infrastructural development.

Speaking at the forum, the Bauchi state commissioner of land and survey ,Yakubu Barau Ningi said the state government is taking bold steps towards adopting systematic land and housing registration, address land disputes as well as settle all litigations and payment of compensation in the state.

Represented by the deputy surveyor general, Kabiru Bappah Baraya, the commissioner stressed the need for government to ensure that all compound chiefs, surveyors and town planners arbitrate and address all disputes originating from landed property in the state.

In his remarks, the Bauchi state branch chairman of the institute, ESV Jambil Suyudi Zubairu called on the states and national assemblies to domesticate the profession of surveyors and valuers by establishing the office of Valuer General of the institution.

Other recommendations made at the seminar include reactivation of geographic information systems by acquiring land , involvement of estate developers in land and shelter provision as well as increase efforts by the state on mass housing projects among others.
