Evacuation of mentally-challenged persons from the streets of Anambra State Continues Unabated

In total compliance of the directive of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, to rid the streets of Anambra State of mentally ill persons and destutues.
The Honorable Commissioner For Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, personally participated in the raid that netted a number of these troubled individuals, who were picked up and relocated to Nteje Home for the mentality challenged persons.
One of the mentally-challenged persons was  tracked from the popular Unizik junction Awka, to Amawbia, before the team were able to apprehend him and the information gathered from the boy who is probably in his early twenties, revealed that he is from Edo State.
The subsequent raid that was carried out under the aesthetic Aroma flyover, Awka, netted an elderly mentally challenged woman, who explained that she is from Lagos State, and was dropped off in Anambra, by her uncle.
Surprisingly, a search that was carried out on the woman’s luggage, revealed some bundles of Naira notes in different denominations. The amount of money found on the woman, was suspected to be a proceed from begging activities.
In her speech during the raid, the Honorable Commissioner, regretted that most of the individual who were picked up from different locations in Anambra State, were people from neighboring states, who were dropped off in Anambra State by unknown individuals.
Lady Mezue, insisted that the ministry will do all it can to rid the streets of Anambra State of destitutes and mentally challenged people.
She however, expressed displeasure on the manner in which people are brought into Anambra State to carry out  illicit activities like begging and wondering.
Lady Mezue went further to appreciate the support extended to the ministry by the Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano, whom she explained has been very supportive of activities of the ministry.
She also made mention of the encouragement she has  received so far from the wife of the Gov, Chief Mrs. EbeleChukwu Obiano, as regards to  the ministry’s efforts in rehabilitating the inmates at Nteje Home for the mentality-challenged.
