In a move to cushion the effects of rising agricultural input costs, former Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Dist. Sen. Danjuma Tela Laah, has distributed 1,600 bags of fertilizer to communities across Southern Kaduna. The distribution covered socio-cultural groups, traditional and religious leaders, securities, as well as other categories of people, in a deliberate effort to reach as many segments of society as possible.
The distribution ceremony, which took place in Kagoro, Kaura Local Government Area, attracted stakeholders from across the senatorial district. Senator Laah, who was represented by Alhaji Sulaiman Isa Baffa, described farming as the backbone of the people of Southern Kaduna, noting that the soaring prices of fertilizer have put a strain on farmers at all levels.
He said, “Our people are mostly farmers, and with the hike in fertilizer prices, many could not afford it this year. This gesture is to ensure that nobody is left behind in this farming season. It is to complement government efforts in ensuring food security and reducing hunger among our people.”
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support, adding that it was his contribution to encourage productivity and reduce hardship among local farmers who are struggling to keep up with modern farming requirements.
Alhaji Baffa further emphasized that the former senator has remained committed to supporting his constituency, even after leaving office. He called on community leaders to help monitor the fair distribution of the fertilizer to ensure it gets to the actual farmers who need it.
Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Wazirin Kagoro, Mr. David Peter, commended Senator Laah for what he described as a far-reaching intervention at a time of serious need. He noted that involving all social categories and sectors in the distribution plan was commendable and inclusive.
“Senator Laah has shown he cares for every group — the traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, as well as ordinary farmers,” he said. “We are grateful for his foresight and generosity, and we pray that God will grant him success in all his future endeavours.”
Some of the beneficiaries expressed happiness over the intervention. They described it as life-saving, coming at a time when many households could not afford to purchase fertilizer for the ongoing farming season.
