Experts call for apps innovation to improve farming
Design experts have called on entrepreneurs, youths to keep innovating apps and designs especially in agriculture, to assist farmers in increasing food chain.
Charles Isidi, Head of Growth at Thrive Agric, made the call in Lagos on Friday during the Social Media Week tagged: “Everyone Should be A Designer – Human Centred Design for Digital Spaces’’.
“Technology powers our process. Our extension workers have a custom app which collates varying data of farmers and farm operations.
“This helps us automate Short Message Service on weather updates, market prices for inputs and other information to the farmers on crops they are planting and livestock reared.
“We are making the best decisions backed with on-field data to improve yield.
“We take farmland coordinates and crops planted, weekly satellite imaging, soil condition tests analysis to ensure right predictions on weather conditions and other factors affecting yield,” Isidi said.
He noted that about 2,600 birds had been raised, 170,000 tonnes of grains produced in collaboration with 18,500 farmers across the country.
Isidi said in his presentation that designing for human experiences, would never grow old and it had become a lifestyle in everything we do.
He said that when designing, it should cut across all people because it is a result of a problem solved.
Also speaking, Kuddy Balogun, Product Designer, Kuddy Financial, said that content designs should respect users.
Balogun said that contents designers should be conscious enough to understand their basic responsibility.
She said that content designers should also put into consideration chaos and every situation, so as to remain relevant.
