Eyewitness Annual Lecture: Nasarawa Governor Sule, others bag leadership excellence award

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and others who distinguished themselves in various positions of leadership and endeavours have received the Eyewitness Newspaper 2024 Leadership Excellence Award.

Dr Daudu Kigbu, the Guest Speaker at the Eyewitness Newspaper annual Lecture and award series to mark the 8th anniversary, while delivering his lecture in Lafia extolled Gov Sule’s leadership qualities.

Dr Kigbu, while speaking on the theme “Translating the Principle of Corporate Governance in a Democracy, Governor Abdullahi Sule Model in Nasarawa State identified transparency, accountability, fairness, and
responsibility as principles of the corporate world.

According to him, the corporate principles of transparency, accountability, fairness, and responsibility are foundational elements of democratic rule, which aims to serve with integrity and efficiency, with strict adherence to the rule of law.

The Guest Speaker said Gov Sule had shown commitment by leveraging his private sector experience for the overall development of Nasarawa State.

Dr Kigbu said further that gov Sule’s background in engineering and business management had influenced his approach to governance and policy implementation.

This, the guest speaker said was reflected in the repositioning of the Nasarawa state from an agrarian and civil service state to an industrialization state, with crude oil exploration and solid mineral mine activities.

Kigbu said that Gov Sule’s administration had worked tirelessly in improving healthcare, education, economy, security, and infrastructure, and addressing the backlog of unpaid gratuities and pensions for retirees.

“Gov Sule is an embodiment of competence, capacity, and integrity, he has leveraged his private sector experience for the development of Nasarawa state.

“This is demonstrated by his insistence that the state must be home to the development of solid mineral value chain industry as against safely carting away of raw materials elsewhere,” he said.

Speaking at the occasion, Gov Sule, congratulated the Eyewitness Newspaper Publisher, Donatus Nadi for being consistent as well as commended the richness of the paper.

Sule reiterated that his administration was committed to good governance, transparency, accountability, and prudence in the management of the state’s resources.

“This is the kind of award and recognition that I appreciate because is coming from somebody completely outside the government who is probably watching what we are doing and appreciating the kinds of work we are doing,” he said.

In her remarks, Zainab Ahmed, former Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, applauded the Eyewitness for upholding the truth in its reportage and called for sustenance.

Dr Aliyu Bello, Chairman, Nasarawa State All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of the awardees, commended the publisher of the Eyewitness for exhibiting a high sense of professionalism in its reportage.

In his welcome address, Donatus Nadi, Publisher of Eyewitness Newspaper, while thanking God for marking the 8th anniversary said, Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration had given a new dimension to the governance and development that hitherto divided the state through purposeful leadership.

Gov Abdullahi Sule received the Eyewitness Leadership Excellence Award 2024,
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Speaker, Nasarawa State House Assembly, received Eyewitness Political trailblazer 2024 Award.

Other awardees are Dr Ikrama Hassan, Chief Medical Director, Dalhatu Araf Specialist, Dr Faisal Shaib, former executive director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Aliyu Bello, APC Chairman, Rep Jeremiah Umaru, Rep Jonathan Gaza, among others.
