Family of dad of kidnapped governorship aspirant laid to rest in Anambra as priest warns on danger of idol worship

It was a moment of pain for the Agbasimelo family of Ezinifite, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State as they laid to rest their patriarch, late Engr Emmanuel Obiora Agbasimelo.

Engr Agbasimelo who died at 80 years was the father of the governorship aspirant of Labour Party in 2021 governorship election in Anambra State that produced the incumbent Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

In his homily at the burial which took place at his compound, Rev Cannon Arinze Umeakunna, described the late Engr Agbasimelo as a devout christian of Anglican church who served God well until his death.

Rev Cannon Umeakunna noted that people these days have abandoned God and settled for worship of human beings instead of God, lamenting that the menace of human worship which manifest in pure practice of paganism has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.

He therefore said such practice should be put in check to prevent it from destroying the society entirely.

“These days people are now turning to paganism by worshiping human beings instead of worshiping God Almighty. There are different forms of paganism and the latest dimension is human worship. I call it human worship because people now place those in position of authority and those in possession of riches above God. People indulge in all kinds of evil practice so that they can make money and get into position of authority to get worshipped by others,” he added.

The Anglican cleric called on Christians to retrace their steps and focus on worshiping God according to the scripture because that is the path of life that pleases God which attracts blessings of God such as blessing of healing, blessing of prosperity and blessings of longevity.
He noted that the late Agbasimelo is a typical example of God’s way of blessing those that worship Him, calling on Christians in general and the family of the late Engr to emulate their father in sticking to the worship of God no matter the situation.

In his tribute on behalf of Oga Ndi Oga Foundation, Mr Paul Nnakife lamented that Late Engr Agbasimelo would have been a father of Executive Governor of Anambra State if his son who was the governorship candidate of Labour Party was not kidnapped ahead of the 2021 governorship election.
According to him Obiora Agbasimelo would have won the election because he has already out campaigned other candidates ahead of the election courtesy of Oga Ndi Oga Foundation.

He said: “Our concern now is to see justice prevail on the case of kidnapping of Obiora. Let those who did the devilish job be brought to book. That is our prayer and may the gentle soul of his father rest in the Lord.”
Prominent guests who came to sympathise with the family included the former Managing Director of Nigerian Imland Waterwsys (NIWA), Dr. George Muoghalu, the traditional ruler of Ezinifite community,Igwe S.A.C Obika, provost of Odumegwu Ojukwu University College of Health Sciences, Dr.Barth Okafor among others.
