Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that the killings across Nigeria by terrorist groups have nothing to do with religion, describing them instead as acts of inhumanity by criminals who murder both Muslims and Christians without discrimination.
Fani-Kayode made the remark while delivering a lecture as Guest Speaker at the 2025 SYNOD and 35th Anniversary Celebration of the Anglican Diocese of Kafanchan, held over the weekend in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
He said Nigerians must resist attempts by divisive elements to use religion as a weapon for conflict, stressing that the killers of Christians are the same people killing Muslims. “The killers of Christians are the same people killing Muslims,” he said.“We must not allow bad leaders to divide us on religious lines. Both Christians and Muslims must learn to embrace one another as brothers and sisters.”
Speaking on behalf of the Kaduna State Governor, the Chief Judge and Attorney-General of the state, Barr. James Kanyip, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting religious freedom and supporting leaders who promote peace and unity. “Governor Uba Sani’s administration remains committed to working with faith leaders who preach forgiveness and peaceful coexistence,” Kanyip said.
“We urge all religious institutions to continue playing their role in building a harmonious society,” he added
Earlier in his address, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kafanchan, Bishop Markus Dogo, reflected on the Diocese’s 35-year journey, noting that the church had undertaken numerous humanitarian projects, including the establishment of schools, hospitals, and skills acquisition centres. He said the church also provides scholarships for orphans and empowerment programmes for widows and vulnerable persons across communities in Southern Kaduna.
In his goodwill message, the Senator representing Kaduna South, Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung who was represented by Hon. Daniel Amos, member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, commended Governor Uba Sani for what he described as an inclusive leadership style.
He said residents of Southern Kaduna are beginning to feel the positive impact of the state government and called on the church to continue offering prayers for its leaders.
“We commend the governor for his sense of inclusion and developmental drive. We call on the Church to keep praying for wisdom and guidance in governance,” he said.
The event, which marked both the 2025 SYNOD and the 35th Anniversary of the Diocese, brought together religious leaders, politicians, and community stakeholders from within and outside Kaduna State.
