By Gabriel Agbonika, Abuja

The much-awaited Federal Government disbursement of palliatives on fuel subsidy removal to Nigerians will begin this week.

The palliative measures which is designed to cushion the negative effects of fuel subsidy removal especially on the low income earners in Nigeria, involves payment of N25,000 monthly for three months as well as distribution of food and other materials.
This was disclosed by Hon. David Idris Zacharias, the Member representing Idah/Ofu/Ibaji and Igala-Mela local government areas of Kogi State to our correspondent in Abuja. He said that the improved process of distributing the palliative measures was introduced in order to reduce the alleged past cheating and abuse of the process by government officials.
According to Hon. Zacharias, the new direct disbursement is a federal government decision. “Recently forms were given out to be completed by the people at all the federal constituencies in the country because of the alleged cheating noticed in the past distribution exercise where palliative items were diverted by government officials. The money from the federal government will now be sent directly to people through their individual bank accounts. Once the money reach the account of the beneficiaries they will access it immediately.
The process has been narrowed down through Federal Legislators starting from Senators, house of representatives members, down to the house of Assembly members. By the end of this December 2023, people in Nigeria will start to feel the impact of the new measures being adopted to reach the common people at the grass roots.
People should, therefore, exercise patient with the federal government as realistic measures are being put in place to address the hardship that Nigerians are going through as a result of new measures taken to improve the country’s economy. This is a new government that has vowed to change the narratives of unfulfilled promises. From the takeoff of Tinubu government we have seen that there’s a better future for Nigerians. To build a house is not a one day affairs. We should remain patient and focused. Definitely change for better will come in the New Year.
On the 2024 FG budget Hon David Zacharias urged Nigerians to be rest assured that the budget would be better implemented than what obtained in the previous years. He believes that there is every high hope for Nigerians to expect a better improved socio-economic situation in the New Year”.
Hon. Zacharias explained that the Federal Government knows where our economic challenges are coming from, stressing that President Bola Tinubu and his team are trying to jack up the revenue generation system in order to meet up the demand and aspiration of the people.
Our local farmers will be encouraged and supported more by this government to improve local food items in order to take care of local consumption and at the same time boost foreign earnings through exportation of food production. This is one of the ways to boost our economy in the next year budget. We have looked at how the dependence on foreign exchange revenue can be drastically increase in order to improve the low level of Naira exchange to foreign currencies. This is particularly important in relation to our oil revenue that has been main earnings of the economy over the past years.
