Over 70,000 residents across eight Local Government Areas in Kaduna State are set to benefit from a free medical outreach organized by Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health Services.

According to Salama News, the benefiting Local Government Areas include Kagarko, Jema’a, Kachia, Jaba, Zango Kataf, Kauru, Sanga, and Kaura.

The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday at selected Primary Health Care Centres across the eight LGAs, provides free HIV screening, laboratory investigations, and treatment for Hepatitis B and C, malaria, diabetes, hypertension, and surgical conditions such as hernia, lipoma, hydrocele, and appendicitis. Other services include eye care, issuance of medical glasses, and cataract extractions.

Speaking during an inspection of the program, Hon. Magaji, who represents Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, explained that the initiative, in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Development Agency, aims to address the health challenges faced by rural communities amidst the ongoing economic crisis and rising cost of medical supplies.

On the occasion, Hon. Magaji also announced that his bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan had passed its third reading in the House of Representatives and had been forwarded to the Senate for concurrence. He revealed that the Kaduna State Government has already handed over the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan to the Federal Government to facilitate the Centre’s establishment, which is expected to be included in the 2025 Federal Budget.

The leader of the medical team, Ibrahim Mohammed, noted that the five-day outreach is being conducted in phases. The program includes advocacy, screenings, medication distribution, issuance of medical glasses, and surgeries. He assured that adequate drugs and medical supplies had been provided to serve over 100,000 people.

Some beneficiaries, including the Agwom Kachia, HRH Zamani Dogonyaro, expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. They commended Hon. Magaji for spearheading the outreach, which they said had significantly eased the burden of accessing healthcare and treatment for various ailments.
