Federal Poly Bauchi stresses zero tolerance for exams malpractice, misconduct, matriculates 5,068 students for 2024/2025 academic session

5,068 students out of 6,928 who applied for admission into the various academic programmes of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi for the 2024/2025 academic session have been matriculated and have become full fledged students.
The 2025 matriculation ceremony was held on Saturday, 12th April 2025 held at the Polytechnics Stadium Complex presided over by the Rector of the Polytechnic, Alh Sani Usman assisted by the Registrar and other Principal Staff of the Institution.
In his matriculation address, the Rector stated that, “For the 2024/2025 Academic Session, the Polytechnic received a total of 6,928 applications for the various National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes run by the Institution and admitted 6,266 students.”
According to him, “Out of that number, 5,068 registered and here is the breakdown: National Diploma (ND) 3, 151 and Higher National Diploma (HND) 1,917.”
Speaking further, he stated that, “As we assemble here, I am reminded of the immense responsibilities that rest on our shoulders as educators, parents, and guardians. It is our collective duty to nurture and guide these young minds, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to excel in their chosen fields and contribute positively to society.”
He added that,”I am delighted to avail you with our modest achievements since I assumed duty as Rector of this Institution which promises to significantly enhance our infrastructure and commitment to academic excellence.”
On the establishment of new Directorate, he stated that,”We have taken bold steps to modernize our administrative structure by establishing the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Centre for Career Services, Directorate of Open, Distance, Flexible and E-Learning, and the Women in Technical Education (WITED) Unit.”
“To demonstrate our resolve towards enhancing the quality and standard of our service delivery, we have renamed the former Directorate of Academic Planning to Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance. These additions are designed to improve communication, provide career guidance, enhance educational accessibility, and promote gender equity in technical education,”he added.
The Rector added that,”In our quest to provide a conducive living environment for our students, we have partnered with private developers under a build, operate, and transfer agreement to enhance our hostel facilities.”
He added that, “Additionally, we are grateful for the intervention from the Federal Ministry of Education, which has supported the construction of a new female hostel. These developments underscore our commitment to ensuring that our students have access to safe, comfortable, and modern accommodation.”
On Perimetre Fencing, he stated that,”To ensure the security and safety of our students and staff, we are currently installing a perimeter fence around the Polytechnic. This initiative is part of our broader strategy to create a secure and peaceful learning environment, free from external disturbances.”
He added that,”Recently, we hosted staff and resource persons from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the accreditation of about 78 different programmes. This rigorous process ensures that our courses meet the highest standards of quality and are recognized not only nationally but also internationally. It is a testament to our dedication to academic excellence and our commitment to providing our students with qualifications that are respected worldwide.”
Also, to enhanced examination integrity and maintain international best practices, “we have installed CCTV cameras in most examination halls to uphold academic integrity and prevent examination misconduct. This measure reflects our resolve to maintain the highest standards of ethics and fairness in our assessment processes.”
Sani Usman added that,”As we speak, our contingents are participating in the ongoing Nigeria Polytechnics Games (NIPOGA). According to reports reaching us, our students are performing commendably in the various events at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State. Their achievements in sports not only showcase their talents and teamwork but also highlight the importance of extracurricular activities in fostering a well-rounded education.”
On Staff Welfare, he stressed that,”The Governing Council has approved promotions and cadre changes for our staff, reflecting our commitment to their welfare and motivation. We believe that a motivated and satisfied workforce is crucial to delivering high-quality education and providing the best possible support to our students.”
He stressed that there is Zero Tolerance to Exams Misconduct in the institution stating that:”Because we place so much value in our certificates, this Institution, I must reiterate, has zero tolerance to examinations misconduct. We cannot afford to produce half-baked graduates and dish out to the society, after suffering over the years to build a reputation for this Polytechnic.”
According to him,”For every form of misconduct committed in the examination hall, there is a commensurate penalty. I should therefore, take this opportunity to implore you to desist from any action or inaction that is considered misconduct. Please read the students handbook for more guidance.
“There may be other institutions who have taken after us, but we are among the first set of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to start the examination scripts auditing exercise. This goes to show that while protecting our reputation, we also are not forgetful of the plight of our students. In this Institution, what you see is what you get,” he added.
“As we embark on this new academic session, I urge our students to embrace the opportunities available here with enthusiasm and dedication. Let us work together to build a polytechnic community that values knowledge, innovation, collaboration, and mutual respect. I encourage you to explore your interests, engage with your peers, and seek guidance from our experienced staff,” he appealed.
He stressed,”To our new students, I offer these words of wisdom: Your time here is a precious opportunity to grow, learn, and develop. Make the most of it by being diligent in your studies, participating in extracurricular activities, and contributing positively to our community.”
Some of the Students expressed their happiness for gaining admission into the Polytechnic to actualize their dreams describing the environment as conducive for learning and character moulding considering the positive image of the Institution in the country.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Registrar, Alh. Kasimu Salihu congratulated the matriculating students telling them to consider themselves fortunate to be part of the prestigious institution.
He stressed, “As you begin this journey, I want to emphasise that our Polytechnic values discipline and decorum. We do not condone indecent dressing, and any violation of this rule will attract penalties. It is essential that you adhere to our dress code to maintain a conducive learning environment.”
“Furthermore, we take academic integrity very seriously. Examination misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any form of cheating or malpractice will lead to severe consequences, including but not limited to rustication and expulsion,” he added.
The Registrar added that,”As you navigate campus life, be cautious of the social groups you join. Some may appear harmless but could be fronts for cultist activities. We urge you to prioritise your safety and focus on groups that promote academic excellence and personal growth.
“Once again, I welcome you to the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi and wish you a successful academic journey. Let us work together to uphold the values of our institution and make this academic session a memorable one, Kasimu Salihu concluded.
The matriculating students were officially sworn in by Barr Umar Wunti who administered the oath on them warning them against breaking any of the items of the oath which will be met with penalty.
