Flood ravages bridges, farmlands in Bogoro communities

Flood has destroyed bridges, culverts and farmlands in seven villages in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Executive Chairman of the Council, Iliya Habila while paying a sympathy visit to the affected communities, expressed worry over the development and assured them of government’s commitment to fixing the broken down bridges and culverts.
Iliya Habila also lamented that the destructions of many farmlands in villages which he said would affect bumper harvest this year unless miracle happens.
According to him, the torrential rains in the past few days resulted in the overflow of the river banks leading to the flooding of farms and cutting off of the bridges and culverts.
He however promised to forward their matter to the relevant agencies and ministries both at the federal and state governments for further action.
The Council Chairman however cautioned residents and motorists in the affected areas to be careful crossing the bridges disclosing that some of the bridges had cracked.
Some of the farmers including traditional rulers who spoke, commended the Chairman for the timely visit to the affected areas.
They pleaded for assistance and called for immediate intervention to avert any loss of life and properties.
The Chief of Ndit community, Mr. Ezekiel Daniel said the flood has become a setback to many farmers in Ndit as many of them have gone back to square one.
According to the traditional ruler about one hundred and fifty hectares of rice farm were submerged and flooded in Ndit
Mr. Ezekiel Daniel pointed out that his people are now living in fear of destruction as the collapse of the bridge is imminent.
The flood caused break down of the bridges making vehicular movement difficult in Gambar Zugum, Gambar Lere, Bar Arewa, Bar Kudu, Gizaki, Ndit, Tadnum, Bugun and Dhrbi villages.
In Gambar Lere and Gambar Zugum the Councilor representing the ward Hon. Samson Y. Jonathan said School activities were paralyses as civil servants and students could not be able to make it to school during this time as contained in a statement by Gomna James, Information Officer, Bogoro Local Government Area.
