Flood submerges Kilema community in Nasarawa, as 4000 residents cry for help

No fewer than 4000 residents of Kilema community, in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to take proactive steps to reconstruct Kilema/Tudun Amba bridge to ease movement of goods and services within the areas.
They made their feelings known while narrating their ordeal in an interview with our correspondent at the scene of a recent flood incident in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital on Monday.
Our correspondent who went round the community, observed that the heavy downpour which lasted for over 9 hours submerged Kilema/Tudun Amba bridge making it unmotorable for vehicles and pedestrians along the area.
Our correspondent further reports that Kilema/Tudun Amba Doma road Bridge is one of the busy roads connecting Lafia and Doma Local Government Areas of the state.
It would be recalled that the bridge was submerged by water owing to the heavy downpour that lasted over 9 hours thereby left the commuters plying the road stranded.
Our correspondent who went round the state capital, further observed that scores of commutters who have been plying the bridge were frustrated and remained stranded for hours at the scene of the flood incident.
In an interview with some of the teachers of Police Secondary Lafia who were crossing to attend the graduation ceremony of the school, Prince Eze John and Mrs. Rejoice Adam lamented that they were stranded, calling in the state government to as a matter of urgency to come to their rescue.
They, however, explained that this was not the first time the water submerged the bridge both in Kilema and Kofar Kaura, expressing worry that there was need for Governor Sule to take proactive steps to rescue the two bridges from being collapsed.
Also narrating his ordeal in an interview with our correspondent, a resident of Doma, Mr. Adam Alhassan-Doma and a driver from Doma, Mr. Amadu Attah lamented that the bridge needs government attention to protect lives and properties of people plying the bridge from Lafia to Doma, the headquarters of Doma local government area of the state for their day to day activities in the state.
On their parts, Mr. Haruna Abubakar and, Mr. Bala Simon-Alu explained that the flood has crippled their business activities within the affected Areas, urging relevant authorities to do the needful by constructing Kilema Tudun Amba Bridge for hitch-free movement of people before, during and after the rainy season.
Chairman, Kilema Youth Development Association, Mr. Shehu Abbas stated that the flood affected many houses within the river bank, appealing to relevant authorities to urgently come to their aid.
