Food crisis: FG distributes 20 trucks of rice to vulnerable communities in Nasarawa

Nasarawa state government says it has received the 20 trucks of 25kg bags of rice from the Federal Government and distributed same to 147 electoral wards in the 13 local government areas of the state to cushion the effect of the current economy challenges being faced by the citizens of the state.

The Commissioner for Special Duties on Humanitarian Affairs and NGOs, Dr. Margaret Elayo revealed this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Lafia, the state capital.

Dr. Margaret revealed that the 20 trucks of the 25kg bags of rice donated by the federal government to the state were received in March and April, adding that the ministry of humanitarian and NGOs saddled with responsibility had already distributed the rice across the 13 local government areas of the state.

According to her, during the Sallah break they left over of some of the rice and those once procured by the state government were shared during the Sallah celebration, adding that the aim was to assist the less privilege once and those who could not afford to feed their families three squares meals in a day.

While acknowledging that there was economic hardship, she added that the situation was not actually peculiar to Nasarawa state alone, noting that the country itself is going through a lot of serious economic challenges and appealed to the citizens of the state and Nigerians at large to be patient and give more time to the present administration under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enable him to fulfill the policy of his renewed hope agenda.

She, however, stated that the state government is doing everything humanily possible to ensure that it addresses the current economy challenges being faced by its citizens.

“Despite the out cry, there are people that we are concentrating on in the state which are the most vulnerable persons, women, children and disable persons and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs),” she stated.

She, however, appealed to the members of the public to join hands with the state government to enable it tackle the hunger strike in the state.

She continued, “The almajiri, the People Living with Disable, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), were part of those that benefited from the 20 trucks of rice donated by the federal government.”

“We gave in each of the 147 electoral ward in the 13 local government areas of the state 100 bags of rice. During the Sallah break quite number of bags were also distributed to Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), among others individuals.”

According to her, all government sectors in the state benefited from the palliatives of the federal government, stating that the aim was to carry everybody along.
