Fora of commissioners, special assistants want President Tinubu, Governor Otu back in 2027

Thirty-one commissioners and 31 special advisers in Governor Bassey Otu’s government have separately held public events in Calabar in the last couple of days to endorse President Bola Tinubu, Gov Otu and his deputy, Dr Peter Odey to continue in the second term, 2027 to 2031.

Accordong to them, Tinubu has recorded unprecedented feats in two years to earn him a second term.

They have said that, especially in Cross River no other  person, particularly from the ruling APC,  will be allowed to express interest.

They also insisted that other parties may not field any candidates as, according to them, Gov Otu has profoundly demonstrated capacity in performances. 

Spokesman for the College of Commissioners, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk who is commissioner for health in the State, reeled out achievements of Otu in 24 months in office. 

He said, according to him, that Otu has out-performed his predecessors.

“In two years, from our judgement and judgement, Gov Otu has overwhelmingly executed the functions of his office in the areas of infrastructures,  health, security, education, agriculture,  economy and youth, women development.

The commissioners, including seven women and twenty-four men said, “We want continuation in the growth and capacity delivery as performed Gov Otu.”

Similarly, the forum Special Assistants  a stewardship dinner in honour of the state governor and his deputy with the theme, “People First in Action – The Journey Thus Far.”

According to Chairman of the Forum, Mr. Andrea Ekeng Inyang, Otu is a visionary leader whose administration has been defined by compassion, integrity, and performance rather than publicity.

In their judgment, Otu has in two years, repositioned the State through strategic, people-centric initiatives that have restored public trust.

Inyang said Otu has prioritised and completed some  of the critical projects inherited from previous administrations, rather than initiating new ones for prestige. 

Inyang reeled out Otu’s achievements to include

Security reform through a community-driven initiative called ‘Operation Okwok’, explaining that it is aimed at restoring peace and public trust.

“Infrastructure upgrades, including the rehabilitation of the Adiabó–Eseku Road, the Parliamentary Extension, and the long-awaited Nsan–Oban Road, which connects Akamkpa Constituencies 1 and 2.

“Revival of public utilities, such as the Calabar Urban Water Scheme and the modernisation of the Cross River State Library.

“Tourism sector rejuvenation, particularly the restoration and repositioning of Tinapa and the Calabar International Conference Centre (ICC).

“Agricultural initiatives like soil mapping and rural investment programmes aimed at enhancing food security, etc..”
