In a determined effort to make sure that vulnerable people are not left behind in accessing quality healthcare services in Gombe State enrollment of beneficiaries of GoHealth under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to attain Universal Health Coverage has commenced.
It is expected that not fewer than 40,000 beneficiaries regarded as poor and vulnerable will be enrolled within the 10 days of the enrollment across the state.
The Director, Planning Research and Statistics in the Agency, Tanimu Umar, disclosed that those expected to enjoy the health benefits are; pregnant women, U-5 children, people who are 65 years old and above, people living with disabilities (PWDs) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are staying at designated camps across the state.
Tanimu Umar said that, “The process will cover the entire 114 wards of 11 LGAs in the state where the poorest of the poor and vulnerable will be enrolled. The categories include; children under five, widows, pregnant women, aged, 65 years and above, IDPs and people with special needs.”
He further revealed that those assigned to identify the beneficiaries have been carefully trained in order to effectively handle the process at the designated centers in all the Primary Healthcare facilities across the state.
The Director stressed that, “Our enrolment officers have been well trained and mobilized to handle the 10-day process, they will be closely supervised by GoHealth staff supported by Ward Development Committees (WDCs) and GoHealth Desk Officers” .
However, one of the major requirements for the registration is the possession of the National Identification Number (NIN), due to its advantage to tracking subscribers who would be enrolled.
The second phase of the program will include; enrollment of additional 15,000 and revalidation of the existing 25,000 poor and vulnerable people by the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth).
Some of the officials handling the exercise when contacted said that the process has been smooth saying however that aside the failure of some without the NIN, some others were not qualified based on the specified guidelines.
One of the officials said that, “We are enrolling beneficiaries for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund. We are five in number enrolling beneficiaries here in Pantami PHC. Some of the clients came without the NIN, and some others are not eligible” .
He added that, “It takes us some minutes to explain to them. We intend to enroll beneficiaries within this area through the sensitisation of traditional and religious leaders.”
The process will cover the entire 114 wards of 11 LGAs in the state where the poorest of the poor and vulnerable will be enrolled.
