Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Alhaji Jibrin Barde and other party leaders have been called upon to urgently set machinery in motion to address alleged sidelining of critical women stakeholders in the activities of the party.
The call was made by Forum of past Women Leaders of the party led by
Ms Mole Istifanus, a former executive member of the PDP in the North East while addressing a news conference in Gombe on Monday.
According to her, ”The PDP in the state is now a divided house. You know a divided house is a threat to victory for a party that is really working to return to power. Women chieftains had been in the PDP since 2003 and had laboured hard to ensure victory for the party in previous elections”.
She added that, ””Women in our forum and other thousands at the grassroots and mobilizers are not happy with the turn of events in the party where the activities for the campaign were done without involving some founding members of the party,”.
Mole Istifanus then called on all members of the party to close ranks for the purpose of winning the 2023 Governorship and other Elections in the state.
The forum is alleging that its members are not being carried along in the campaigns directorate saying, “The governorship candidate promised to work with those who did not support him during the primaries. How can we win election if founding members are not being carried along”.
“These are pioneer members. We must make amends so that we do not lose the election as was the situation in 2019,”.
The women forum is demanding for inclusion in the campaign directorate so that they too will contribute and be part of the activities that will lead to election victory for the party.
