Gombe donates N150m to disaster victims in Borno, Yobe states

Gombe State Government on Friday, donated the sum of N150m to victims of natural disasters in neighbouring Borno and Yobe states.

Recall that recently, terrorists killed scores in Mafa village, Tarmuwa LGA as well as flood in parts of Yobe state and the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri and environs, capital of Borno State.

The Gombe State high powered delegation was led to the Two states by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau.

In Maiduguri, the Gombe State Government identified with the government and people of Borno State over the recent flood disaster that devastated the State Capital and environs.

The Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by a high powered delegation led by the deputy governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, presented a donation of N100 million as assistance to the victims of the incidence, praying God that such devastating incidence never reoccur in the history of Borno State.

Conveying the heartfelt sympathy of the governor and people of Gombe State at the Government House and the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri, the deputy governor said the visit was informed by the bond existing between the two states.

Also speaking was the Secretary to the Gombe state government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who said the news of the devastating flood got to the governor who is on an official engagement outside the country, and has directed that the visit be made immidiately in view of the friendship existing between the two neighbouring states.

At the Government House, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum expressed appreciation over the concern and love shown to them in this trying time.

He also acknowledged and appreciated the donations of 100 million naira from Gombe State Government, pledging to use it judiciously towards mitigating the effect of the flood.

The Gombe delegation proceeded to the palace of his royal highness, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Al’amin Elkanami, where the Deputy Governor Manasseh Daniel Jatau sympathized with the people over loss of lives and property, praying the Almighty Allah to repose the soul of the deceased, and that such unfortunate incidents do not happen again.

The Shehu of Borno appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya for sending such a high powered contingent to commiserate with them, describing the magnitude of the disaster as greater than that which occurred 30 years ago.

In a gesture of solidarity and compassion, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON sent a high-level delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, to Yobe State to convey the heartfelt condolences and support of the government and people of Gombe State.

Dr. Manassah Jatau, speaking on behalf of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in the community, calling it both sad and unfortunate.

“We stand with you in this moment of grief, as you face the double tragedy of the attack on Mafa community and the devastating floods that claimed lives and destroyed homes and farmlands across the state,” he stated.

He said the N50 million donation is to aid the state government in providing much-needed assistance to the affected victims.

Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, while receiving the delegation, expressing profound appreciation for the support.

He described the visit as a demonstration of a strong bond of brotherhood and love between Gombe and Yobe States.

He emphasized that while the financial aid will significantly help the victims, the act of solidarity and care in such trying times will be remembered as a remarkable show of unity between the two neighbouring states.

Governor Buni noted that the donation and the visit are not only a source of immediate relief but also a lasting symbol of the friendship and cooperation between the people of Gombe and Yobe.

The Gombe delegation included Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggarewo; Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; Commissioner for Finance & Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji; Commissioner for Local Government & Community Development, Abdulkadir Mohammed Warizi; Commissioner for Internal Security & Home Affairs, Lt. Col. Abdullahi Bello (Rtd.); Hon. Nasiru Abdullkareem, representing Dukku North Constituency in the Gombe State House of Assembly; and the Executive Secretary of Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi.
