Leadership of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has been berated for the gale of defections that has hit the party in recent times making it to be losing bearing ahead of the 2023 General elections.

While reacting to the development, a staunch member of the PDP in the state, Danladi Hassan Kera described it as most unfortunate blaming the present leadership of the party in the state for the precarious situation.

A one-time Special Adviser, Media to former Governor of Gombe State in a telephone conversation with our Correspondent said that, “Actually, it is a very sad moment for the PDP in Gombe State especially looking at the caliber of the people that have being leaving the PDP on a daily basis and beyond that, basically looking at the time it is happening”.

The former Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee for PDP Campaign Council, 2015 and 2019 added that, “This is the time we are approaching the general elections. This is a time we should have been a more strong and united front so that we can wrestle power from the sitting government but in the contrary, a lot of things have being happening negatively in the party”.

He further said that, “Since the last primary election, the backlash has been affecting the party causing many chieftains and other stakeholders to be leaving to the APC and it is quite unfortunate” .

On the repercussions of the development, he said that, “As you know, a divided house cannot stand, until and unless the PDP resolved its internal crisis, unite all the warring factions, I don’t think and I don’t see us winning the 2023 elections in the state. Let us be very realistic and sincere”.

“I have been a member of the PDP since I joined active politics years back, I have held many important offices in the party including Special Adviser, Media, Chairman Media and Publicity Committee for PDP Campaign Council, 2015 and 2019. Unfortunately, the events happening in the PDP now is like those in the helm of affairs or those managing its affairs in the state does not value those that have sacrificed a lot for the party”, he added.

According to him, “Those who put down their lives for the parry, who did a lot of things for the party when it was in Government but unfortunately they are leaving. Without these people on board, honestly, I don’t see the PDP going anywhere in 2023. Yes, each party has its peculiar problem but what is most important is the way and manner the crisis are managed”.

Hassan Kera added that, “Even at the national level, PDP has problems but there are efforts to amicably resolve the problem from the side of the leadership and on the side of the presidential candidate as well as the warring factions to see that they seat on the table and resolve the problem”.

He lamented that there are no efforts made to amicably resolved the issue in Gombe State PDP saying that, “I don’t think that PDP in Gombe State without resolving its internal crisis stands to win elections and looking at the caliber of the people leaving the party, recently we lost a former Commissioner for 2 times, local government chairman for 4 consecutive terms, another influential member and party Secretary. We need to do something fast to salvage the situation”.

Recall that Four chieftains of the Party in Gombe State, led by Ahmed Abubakar Walama announced their dumping the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) thereby boosting the reelection bid of the state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

The development is coming at time  campaigns for the 2023 General elections have just Kick-started when politicians are scampering for more valuable supporters who can add value to their aspirations.

Leading the politicians who defected from the PDP is Ahmed Abubakar Walama who was Dukku local government chairman  for four different times and twice a  Commissioner in the state while the others are , Sa’idu Kawuwa Malala who was one time local government chairman, member of the state assembly and commissioner announced their defection yesterday.

Others are a former special adviser in the state, Maigari Usman Malala and a former youth leader of the PDP in Dukku local government area of the state Mohammed Ya’u.

Reports have it that all of the new decampees have collected their registration cards to show that they are now bona-fide members of the ruling party in the state.
