Gombe Police arrest 16 suspects for criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of fire arm, mischief by fire, theft, others

Gombe State Police Command has arrested a total of 16 suspects for various criminal offence ranging from criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of fire arm and mischief by fire, theft criminal intimidation and attempt to commit an offence and kidnapping. 

The Command PPRO, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar in a press release stated that for the offence criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of fire arm and mischief by fire, one Usman Yakubu, aged 36 of Lafiya Lamurde, Adamawa State; Sunusi Yaskuma, aged 26 also of Lafiya Lamurde; David Sale aged 34 and Chimabe Sale Pwahari, aged 30 were arrested. 

According to the PPRO, on the 06/06/2022 at about 1506hrs, a joint team of Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police led by Captain Akeem A. M while on special duty at Nyuwar village of Balanga LGA arrested the suspects in connection to the said crime.

He added that the suspects have confessed to have participated in the recent clash between Lunguda and Waja crisis, where three single barrel guns were recovered from them. 

Similarly, On the 08/06/2022 at about 2200hrs, two other suspects were arrested with the same offence in possession of one locally made revolver pistol with 24 rounds of life ammunition.

He added that they are suspected to be hired fighters by one of the two tribes, Waja or Lunguda who recently engaged themselves in a communal clash and have confessed to the crime while the case is under investigation at the SCID Gombe.

The following items were also recovered from the suspects as exhibits including One cutlass; Three knives; One bow; Charms and One quiver containing 52 arrows.

Also for the offence of criminal intimidation and attempt to commit an offence to wit kidnapping, Mohammed Usman Gambo, aged 22 and Mohammed Idris, aged 40 all of Tudun Wada in Billiri LGA of Gombe State were arrested. 

The release contained that On 10/03/2022 at about 1154hrs, based on complaint received by State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) by one Kemuel Manzo, aged 39 of Tudun Kwaya village in Billiri LGA, Gombe State that on same date, he received a phone call from an unknown GSM number demanding a ransom of N30,000,000 or he will be kidnapped.  

On Receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police directed the SIB operatives to investigate the case, the number was tracked, however in the cause of investigation, Amos Hamma was arrested, who later said that he bought the SIM from the above mentioned suspect, one Mohammed Usman Gambo, aged 22 of Tudun kwaya village, Billiri LGA, who specialized in copying peoples information during SIM swap and used it to register new SIM for his Criminal purposes. 

Suspect confessed to the crime and case will be charged to court in completion of the investigation.

The Command also arrested one Usman Yahaya Ismail aged 24 of Doma quarters Gombe stating that on 28/04/2022 at about 1034hrs, one Abdulkadir Abubakar brought a letter of complaint to the Commissioner of Police. 

He narrated that on the 21/04/2022 at about 0900hrs, he sent one Adamu Mohammed to withdraw money for him from his Jaiz bank account using ATM card, while at UBA ATM machine, the above named suspect who was behind him saw his PIN number and criminally deceived him that the ATM card got hooked he should go to the bank and complain. 

Immediately he left to lodge the complain, the suspect removed the ATM card and left for MBT investment POS near A.G Dalibi round-about and withdrew the sum of N308,000:00 and deposited the sum of N300,000:00 into Ismail Abdullahi account with GT bank and used the remaining N8,000:00.

Investigation revealed that the suspect deceived Ismail Abdulkadir and collected his account number to which the Suspect have confessed to the crime, investigation is on-going case will soon be charged to court for prosecution.

For the offence of criminal conspiracy and theft, the Command arrested  Abubakar Mohammed Sani alias “Bandasa” ‘aged 23yrs of Bolari quarters Gombe; Nasiru Shuaibu, aged 22 of Bolari quarters and Gombe, Isah Garba, aged 22 of Madaki quarters Gombe. 

On 13/06/2022 at about 1230hrs, Police operatives from Pantami Division while on special duty during the commissioning ceremony of Dr Abubakar Mohammed Alabura Memorial Primary/Secondary School in Kumbiya-kumbiya within the metropolis, arrested the suspects in connection to the offence.

In the process 7 additional complainants reported that their cellular phones were also removed from their pockets, in the course of investigation, 10 handsets were recovered from them. 

Meanwhile, 8 sets were claimed by the owners leaving two still unclaimed as the Suspects have confessed to the crime and will soon be charged to court for prosecution

The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Babaita assure the Citizens of Gombe State that his administration is committed to their security and that all criminal cases would be transparently investigated and charged to court to uphold the cause of justice.

The Commissioner of Police  also reiterated the resolve and commitment of officers and men of the Command to continue to partner with the good people of Gombe State in guaranteeing security and safety of all indigenes and visitors alike.
