Gombe State Police Command has confirmed that only two people, a man and woman were kidnapped in Shabewa of Dukku Local Government Area of the state.

The Command also urged residents of the state to disregard what it described as misleading information being peddled by mischief social media platforms on the kidnap incident.

According to the Command PPRO, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, contrary to the report going viral on social media outlets that many people were kidnapped at Shabewa village, the story is not true.

He stated in a statement that, “the facts of the case are that, on 08/10/2023 at about 0255hrs, suspected kidnappers invaded the resident of one Umar Sambo of Shabewa Ward, Dukku in Dukku LGA with guns and other dangerous weapons asking his first wife for his whereabouts.”

He added that,”fortunately, he did not sleep in her room and the man was alerted and escaped into the bush before the kidnappers entered the second wife’s room.”

The PPRO further stated that, “but after searching all the rooms and could not find him, they kidnapped one of his wives, named Amina Usman Aliyu,  and his younger brother, Mustapha Sambo of the same address.”

Meanwhile, Police patrol teams in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters are already on their trail inside the bush following directives by the  Commissioner of Police, Oqua Etim.

The CP assured the good citizens of Dukku LGA and the state at large of the Command’s readiness and commitment to securing their lives and properties.

Oqua Etim  urged residents to remain calm and provide the Command with useful information that will aid in the quick rescue of the victims through the Command’s emergency number, 08150567771.

“Finally, the Command implores the public to disregard any misleading information being circulated by mischief makers who are bent on portraying the state in bad light for their selfish interests,” the PPRO concluded.
