Gombe SDGs/Ministry of Environment sensitize public on importance of environmental sanitation

The need for keeping the environment clean to ensure healthy living by residents as a measure of fighting pandemic has been emphasized in Gombe State.
The emphasis was made by the Gombe State Commissioner of Environment and Forest Resources, Dr. Hussaina Goje while fielding questions from journalists in Gombe on Saturday after a road show within Gombe to sensitize the public on the need to keep a clean environment.
She said that, her Ministry has proposed additional refuse collection sites across the state in order to prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse which leads to outbreaks of diseases.
The program was organized by Gombe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office and the State Ministry of Environment to sensitize the public on importance of Environmental sanitation.
The road show which began at the SDGs office, terminated at the Emir’s Palace Gombe and was witnessed by the participation of clubs and societies in the state.
Acting Permanent Secretary of the SDGs, Mr. Charles Maina said that the essence of the road show was to sensitize people on the importance of clean environment as well as dangers of open defecation.
He said that, “We came out and invited all clubs and Associations that are resident in Gombe to sensitize people about the importance of clean environment and sanitation and also campaign against open defecation,”.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, Mal. Bashir Tukur, said that the importance of sanitation cannot be overemphasized because it is one of the critical Goals of the SDGs which can lead to the attainment of other Goals.
He explained that, “Dirty environment has harmful impact on our health, therefore keeping our environment is essential for healthy living;”.
