Many in Cross River State in Governor Ben Ayade’s home town, Obudu, as well as other PDP bigwigs have described the governor’s defection to APC as a liberation for members of PDP and most natives of Obudu.

On Thursday when Ayade announced his defection formally in Calabar become APC governors, there was jubilation in many parts of Obudu town by many of his kinsmen who said his “Departure is a liberation for PDP Cross River State. We prefer peace than having a Governor that makes it impossible for peaceful coexistence.”

Speaking in an interview, former national publicity of PDP, Venatius Ikem said: “There has been celebration in Obudu. The scenario is like when Abacha died.”

Ikem who was allegedly blocked from emerging as chairman of PDP in the state expressed the hope that there will be no other intrigues towards his ambition.

He however said that the major challenge is how to confront the monster of incumbency.

He said Ayade’s movement to APC will enable the party to move forward.

“We thank God that with his defection, we have moved from where we have been stuck.”
