‎Governor Mutfwang, APC National Chairman launch e-registration, pledge united front for Plateau’s development

Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday jointly flagged off the APC electronic membership registration and revalidation exercise in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area, and Langtang, Langtang North Local Government Area.


‎They pledged a harmonious working relationship for peace, unity and development in the state.


‎The exercise, which drew a large turnout of party faithful and supporters, was widely described as a significant moment in Plateau State’s political landscape, symbolising renewed cooperation and shared commitment to good governance.


‎Speaking at the flag-off in Dengi, Prof. Yilwatda said the nationwide e-registration and revalidation exercise was designed to deepen inclusiveness, cohesion and internal democracy within the APC.


‎He assured party members of fairness and transparency, stressing that the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.


‎The APC National Chairman commended Plateau citizens for their support for President Bola Tinubu, noting that the President had taken decisive steps to stabilise the economy and reposition the country for sustainable growth.


‎“There are clear signs that the sacrifices Nigerians are making today will yield better days ahead,” he said.


‎Prof. Yilwatda formally welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC, describing their collaboration as a deliberate decision taken in the overall interest of Plateau State.


‎He clarified that their political contest in 2023 was never personal, but rooted in differing political choices.


‎“We were never enemies; we only had political differences. Today marks the beginning of a new political consensus anchored on development and inclusion,” he stated.


‎He added that alignment with the federal government would strengthen Plateau State’s access to projects and development opportunities, expressing confidence that the state would offer strong support to President Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.


‎In his address, Governor Mutfwang said his decision to work with Prof. Yilwatda was driven by the best interests of Plateau State, calling on supporters to embrace unity, peace and collective progress.


‎The Governor acknowledged President Tinubu’s commitment to national development and assured Plateau citizens that cooperation would translate into tangible benefits.


‎He disclosed that his administration had introduced measures to support farmers with essential inputs following losses recorded in the previous farming season.


‎Governor Mutfwang also promised infrastructural development in Kanam, including schools, primary healthcare centres and empowerment programmes aimed at promoting economic self-reliance.


‎He urged citizens to shun drug abuse, uphold peaceful coexistence and channel their energies toward productive ventures.


‎Linking recent security improvements in the state to cooperation and institutional trust, the Governor said the digital registration exercise would convert unity into measurable political strength.


‎He called on traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders to mobilise citizens at the grassroots to participate actively in the exercise ahead of the 2027 elections.


‎Earlier, both leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammadu Muazu Muhammadu II, seeking the support of the traditional institution for the registration exercise and broader development efforts.


‎Several party leaders pledged their support, including the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature; Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ephraim Usman; Kanam LGA Chairman, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa; and Alhaji Sale Kanam.


‎At the Langtang North flag-off, Prof. Yilwatda reiterated that despite past political rivalry, unity had now taken precedence.


‎“Today, no supporter of Governor Mutfwang will fight me, and none of my supporters will fight Governor Mutfwang. We are all APC. We are building a new Plateau and a new Nigeria based on unity and prosperity,” he said, urging mass participation in the registration exercise.


‎Governor Mutfwang encouraged residents to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable full participation in political processes. He described the partnership with Prof. Yilwatda as a journey of unity aimed at taking Plateau State to greater heights, while paying tribute to past leaders, including Gen. J.D. Gomwalk, Chief Solomon Lar and Sen. Jonah David Jang.Dignitaries at the Langtang North event included the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daniel Naalong; Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Nanchang Jatau; Member representing Langtang North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Vincent Bulus; Chairman of Langtang North LGA, Hon. Pilfa Tyem; and Commissioner for Works, Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma.


‎The events featured symbolic presentation of APC membership registration slips to new and existing members in Kanam and Langtang North and South LGAs.


‎The Governor and the APC National Chairman also paid a royal visit to the Acting Ponzhi Tarok, Mr. Nimnan Langyi, in Langtang, soliciting the support of the traditional council for the ongoing registration exercise.
