Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commended the Safana Local Government Council for executing what he described as “the best and most far-reaching empowerment initiative” since he began his engagements with local government councils across the state.
The Governor praised the Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Sani Brazil, for demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to grassroots transformation.
The initiative, carried out under Hon. Brazil’s stewardship, reflects what Governor Radda called “a practical example of how strengthened local government autonomy can deliver real, measurable impact in people’s lives.”
According to Hon. Brazil, the empowerment exercise featured the distribution of:
100 sewing machines; 100 grinding machines; 100 noodle machines; 100 Buje-Buje grinding machines; 50 motorcycles; 10 vehicles; 1 council bus; 100 power tillers; 1 vehicle for the APC Local Government Chairman; 100 bags of flour; 60 tricycles for persons with disabilities; cash empowerment for 101 women (₦50,000 each); cash empowerment for 101 youths (₦50,000 each); cash support for 101 vulnerable persons (₦50,000 each); and cash support for 297 Local Government and Ward EXCO members (₦50,000 each).
Governor Radda commended the scale and depth of the intervention, noting that the broad distribution of tools and cash support showcased a deliberate effort to expand local enterprise, promote self-reliance, and strengthen the economic foundations of Safana communities.
According to the Governor: “This is what local government autonomy is meant to achieve—development that starts from the grassroots and directly transforms the lives of ordinary people. What Safana has done today is outstanding and stands as the most expansive empowerment programme I have witnessed since beginning my local government engagements.”
“Our administration will continue to deepen empowerment initiatives, strengthen local governance structures, and support programmes that uplift youths, women, and vulnerable groups across Katsina State.”
Earlier, the Governor paid a courtesy visit to the District Head of Safana, Alhaji Sada Rufa’i, Yariman Katsina, where he engaged with the District Head, ward heads, and other traditional leaders.
He emphasized the crucial role traditional institutions play in governance, peacebuilding, and community development.
Similarly, Governor Radda met with stakeholders from Safana, including community leaders, party officials, youth groups, women associations, and representatives of various organizations.
The session provided an opportunity to review achievements, receive feedback, and strengthen collective strategies for Safana’s continued development.
The Governor was joined by several top government officials and political leaders, including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Senator representing Katsina Central, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua; and the Member representing Batsari/Safana/Danmusa Federal Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Ilyasu Ruma.
