Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off the distribution of empowerment tools to residents of Danmusa Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to confronting insecurity and strengthening community development across the state.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda emphasized that the security challenges facing Katsina were inherited, but his administration has remained firm in addressing them using both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
“We inherited insecurity — we did not create it,” he said. “But we made a promise to our people that we will confront it with every strategy possible. By Allah’s grace, the situation is improving significantly, and we will not rest until insecurity becomes history in Katsina State.”
The empowerment programme, championed by the Chairman of Danmusa Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Namama, featured the distribution of 1,000 bags of rice, 100 motorcycles, 75 sewing machines, 11 vehicles, 75 grinding machines, 100 POS machines with ₦100,000 startup capital each, and several other empowerment tools.
Governor Radda explained that empowerment is central to stabilizing communities, strengthening households, and reducing youth susceptibility to criminal activities. He added that touring communities allows him to understand citizens’ challenges firsthand.
“Before we came into office, we did not fully know the depth of the challenges. But after winning, we saw the reality. That is why I decided to visit every community — to listen, learn, and ensure government decisions reflect people’s real needs,” he said.
He also highlighted Katsina’s outstanding performance in the nationwide fertilizer distribution exercise, attributing it to transparency and ensuring that genuine farmers accessed the product directly at polling units. He further emphasized ongoing reforms in agricultural mechanization.
“We procured modern tractors and established Agricultural Mechanization Centers in every local government. Our goal is to modernize farming and improve productivity across the state,” he added.
The Governor urged citizens to continue praying for sustained peace and progress. “Whatever success we record today is by Allah’s mercy. With your cooperation and prayers, we will continue working for a safer and more prosperous Katsina,” he said.
Earlier, Governor Radda paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the District Head of Danmusa, Alhaji Dardau Abubakar Magajin Malam, where he was received alongside the District Head of Yantumaki, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Atiku. Elders, title holders, ward heads, scholars, youth representatives, and women leaders from both communities attended the reception.
Governor Radda said the visit reflects his administration’s philosophy of engaging traditional rulers and grassroots leaders.
“Traditional rulers and ward heads are the engines of community life. No government can succeed without their guidance and support,” he said.
The District Head of Danmusa thanked the Governor for his consistent attention to their communities, describing his visit as a sign of humility and true leadership. He commended the appointment of sons of Danmusa and Yantumaki into key government positions and acknowledged various interventions, including agricultural support, irrigation materials, and farming tools.
He appealed for the completion of the Danmusa–Yantumaki road, the construction of a bypass linking Danmusa General Hospital and the Secretariat, the renovation of district heads’ residences, and intervention in a stalled school project.
In response, Governor Radda appreciated the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to staying close to the grassroots.
“It was a deliberate decision to return to Danmusa and Yantumaki exactly as we came during the campaign — directly and openly. Leadership must never be distant from the people,” he said.
He cautioned political actors against exploiting insecurity for personal gain.
“Anyone celebrating insecurity should fear Allah. Leadership cannot be built on the suffering of the people,” he said.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional and religious institutions.
“We increased the allowances of District Heads, Ward Heads, and Imams because they uphold our societal values. When they are strengthened, the entire community becomes stronger,” he said.
On community demands, Governor Radda assured that engineers would inspect the Danmusa–Yantumaki road and the proposed bypass for further action. He also hinted at a major development project for both communities, promising details at the appropriate time.
Governor Radda later met with stakeholders from Danmusa to listen to their concerns. The engagement deepened collaboration between government and grassroots leaders.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s interventions.
“For years, our people lived in fear, but the situation has greatly improved because of your decisive actions. We remain fully behind your vision for a safer Katsina,” he said.
The Governor was joined by several top government officials and political leaders, including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Senator representing Katsina Central, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua; and the Member representing Batsari/Safana/Danmusa Federal Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Ilyasu Ruma.
Also present were the Member representing Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency, Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri; the APC National Legal Adviser, Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia; and the Chairman of the Katsina State APC, Alhaji Sani JB Daura; members of Katsina state executive Council; among others.
