Governor Radda hails Katsina’s national runner-up finish at presidential inter-school debate
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has congratulated the people of Katsina State on the state’s impressive performance at the Presidential Inter-School Debate of Nigeria (PSDN), where Katsina emerged national runner-up, securing second position at the highly competitive contest held in Abuja.
Governor Radda described the achievement as “deeply encouraging and a clear reflection of the steady progress being recorded in the education sector under our Building Your Future Agenda.”
He noted that Katsina distinguished itself on the national academic stage by advancing to the grand finale of the debate, an intellectually rigorous competition that brought together outstanding students from across the federation.
At the end of the contest, Kwara State emerged as the overall winner, while Katsina State secured second position nationwide, a result the Governor said underscores the growing strength of the state’s basic education system.
Governor Radda explained that Katsina’s journey to the final demonstrated resilience, intellectual depth, and academic discipline, with the team recording victories against Lagos (2–1), Abia (2–1), Benue (3–0), and Taraba (3–0) before a narrow 1–2 loss to Kwara State in the grand final.
According to him, the result reflects Katsina’s consistent academic pedigree, recalling that the state has previously finished first and third in earlier editions of the competition.
“This performance confirms that Katsina remains a centre of scholastic excellence. Returning to the national final and emerging runner-up reinforces our reputation for academic competitiveness,” the Governor said.
Governor Radda commended the Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji Gafiya, for his leadership and commitment to nurturing academic excellence, as well as for acknowledging the students’ diligence, brilliance, and exemplary conduct.
He also praised Alhaji Suleiman Umar, who coordinated and supervised the Katsina contingent, describing his role as instrumental to the team’s discipline, focus, and overall success at the national event.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Governor Radda said the state would continue to invest in quality basic education, academic enrichment programmes, and platforms that expose students to national and global standards.
“This achievement goes beyond trophies and rankings. It shows what our young minds can accomplish when given the right support and opportunities. Under the Building Your Future Agenda, we remain committed to raising confident and competitive learners. our children have once again made Katsina proud, and the future of education in the state is bright.” he concluded.
