Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, have rejected an alleged apology credited to Senator Uche Ekwunife over her purported defamatory remarks against them, describing it as a “fabrication fit for the waste bin.”

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the Governor said the apology did not come from Senator Ekwunife herself and therefore lacked credibility.

Opara faulted the unsigned press release attributed to the “Ekwunife Campaign Organization,” noting that such a body does not exist, as Ekwunife contested her senatorial seat under a joint ticket with the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Anambra.

“The so-called apology for defamatory statements made against the Governor and his wife does not appear to have emanated from the Senator herself. Her remarks were made directly through a recorded video and leaked audio conversation,” the statement read.

He stressed that any genuine retraction or apology must come directly from Ekwunife, through the same platforms where the alleged remarks were made.

According to Opara, the purported apology failed to reference the Senator’s initial video and audio, instead focusing on an unsigned article, which he described as evidence of insincerity.

The statement also recalled that Dr. Nonye Soludo had earlier challenged Senator Ekwunife to prove her innocence by swearing an oath before the Blessed Sacrament and subjecting her children, alongside the Soludos’, to a DNA test to counter allegations of infidelity.

“Any contrite apology must be personal, direct, and unequivocal. Defamation committed by an individual cannot be dismissed through a proxy,” Opara insisted.

The Soludo administration concluded that it would disregard the alleged apology as mere “social media gossip,” while maintaining its demand for a clear and direct retraction from Senator Ekwunife.
