Anambra Governor Charles Soludo expressed sympathy for victims of a devastating fire that destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira in Onitsha’s Ifejika Street market on Friday.

While no lives were lost, two four-story buildings were completely destroyed and a third damaged.

The fire, hampered by obstructed access roads, highlighted the dangers of using residential areas as unauthorized warehouses, according to a statement from Governor Soludo’s press secretary, Christian Aburime.

Soludo ordered an immediate investigation into the fire’s cause to prevent future incidents.

He also urged developers and landlords to comply with building codes, obtain necessary permits, and ensure unobstructed access for emergency vehicles.

Furthermore, he directed relevant agencies to work with traders and residents to strengthen safety regulations.
