Governor Soludo tasks journalists on healthy lifestyle as Anambra NUJ holds health week in Awka

Journalists have been advised to be conscious of their health as they go about their daily practices.
Participants at the Health Week organized by the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, including journalists from different media establishments within the State and members of the public were encouraged to live healthy lifestyles in order to prevent sudden deaths.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, noted that the job requirements of journalists are mentally tasking, which demands that they always pay attention to their health, and reiterated the importance of healthy lifestyle for all, noting that longevity is a product of healthy lifestyle.
The Chairman on the occasion, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu, who underscored the importance of undergoing constant and comprehensive health checkups, explained that it is wrong to believe that one is healthy without proper medical checkups.
On his part, the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike, who took participants on lecture centered on High Blood Pressure, explained that health condition is the leading cause of cardiovascular diseases, adding that most people who are hypertensive are not even aware.
Dr Akabuike advised people to regularly go for health checkups and maintain healthy lifestyles such as eating right, regular exercise and low consumption of alcohol and smoking.
The NUJ Chairman, Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, said that the health week was initiated by the council to ensure healthy living amongst journalists, assuring that the event will be a continuous one.
Some journalists who participated at the event, explained that the event will help members imbibe healthy lifestyle and regular health checks, as they rarely find time for themselves.
The event, attended by the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, among others, featured medical tests for the media practitioners and series of lectures on healthy living.
