Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA)to expressly arrest any illicit drug dealer in Borno state.
He reeled out the order, when he visited the State Command of the Agency on Thursday and warned that his administration will not condone the use and sales of illicit drugs.
According to him,the use of illicit drugs posed great danger to public health, particularly to the teeming youth noting that indulgence in drug abuse is responsible for most of the crimes committed in the state and country at large.
In government efforts to combat drug abuse,he said, his administration has since introduced social intervention programmes that have engaged lots of youth, and this has made them to become useful members of the society.
“We have implored deliberate efforts by engaging our youths to be meaningful members of the community.
“Over 3,000 youths have benefited from our social intervention package, I want to assure you of our support in eradicating this menace in our communities,” he said.
Highlights of the visit included the inspection of over 10.5 tonnes of Indian hem (Canabis Sativa), seized by the State Command as conducted round by the State Commandant of NDLEA, Mr Joseph Icha.

He seized the opportunity to inform the Governor that the discovery is the single largest seizure within the northeast region in recent times arguing that the seized items may not be unconnected with links to the transitional syndicate cartels and the Boko Haram insurgents.
