Group under the agies of Nasarawa state Advocates for Peace and Patriotism, has blasted the Nasarawa State Transparency, Accountability, and Good Governance Group over ‘irresponsible’ comment made on the state Accountant General, Dr. Musa Ahmed-Mohammed and calling him to step down from his position since his nursing gubernatorial ambition in the state.

The group has strongly condemned the actions of those it described as financiers of “low-willed desperate politicians” within the state who are promoting false and fake information that a member of the public service or civil service are not eligible to be registered as a member of a political party in the state.

It would be recalled that the Supreme Court of Nigeria had recently ruled that public office holders and civil servants have constitutional rights to participate in politics and belong to political parties, sighting the case of INEC vs Musa, where Justice Ayoola and Justice Mohammed Uwais emphasized that civil service rules could not supersede constitutional provisions.

The reaction of the group is coming following a press conference organized by the Nasarawa state Transparency, Accountability, and Good Governance Group led by its state coordinator, Laz’rus Salaki on Sunday, August 3, 2025 called on the AG to relingiish his appointment citing alleged involvement in partisan politics.

While addressing journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital on Monday, the state coordinator of the group, Abimiku Dangana-Solomon, explained that the group failed to cite constitutional provisions barring public office holders like the AG, Dr. Musa from participating in patisant politics, nothing that their argument relies on a purported circular from the Nasarawa state government which lacks verifiable reference.

Dangana-Solomon, who quoted Justice Ayoola as saying, “There is nothing reasonably justifiable in a democratic society in the interest of defense, public order, public morality or public health; in prohibiting a member of the public service or service….from eligibility to be registered as a member of a political party.”

He, however, maintained that the restriction is a valid derogation from section 40 by virtue of section 45 (1)(a) of the constitution is erroneous, affirming that civil service rules are not a legislation per se as provided by the constitution or subsidiary legislation and they are not made under any enabling Acts or Law.

The group, while challenging Salaki to provide evidence of alleged special favoritism, called on the AG not to be distracted by those spreading disharmony across the 13 local government areas of the state.

The group, therefore, urged the public to continue supporting Dr. Ahmed-Mohammed even as he is yet to declare any gubernatorial ambition. “We clarify that Rt. Hon. Musa Ahmed-Mohammed has not declared any gubernatorial ambition. Instead, the public is really behind him due to his achievements and exceptional leadership traits,” the group added.
