By Ahmad A. Usman, Kafanchan

National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and Nigeria Youth Mentorship and Entrepreneurship Forum (NYMEF) have made a passionate call on government at all levels to act on a pressing issue affecting the Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE) Gidan Waya.

Speaking on behalf of the associations, Comrade Ishaya Ezra, the Executive CMC Chairman, NANCES Kaduna State axis, Secretary General, NYMEF Kaduna State Chapter, and Former SUG President, KSCOE Gidan Waya (2020-2021) stated that for over 30 years, the road to the institution has been neglected, symbolizing the infrastructure deficit in Kaduna state.

Comrade Ishaya staited that, “as a Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya product, I’m compelled to demand accountability from our leaders. It’s unacceptable that an institution producing thousands of teachers operates in such a poor environment.”

He added that, “I’ve had the opportunity to visit many state-owned colleges of education, and I must say, none iis like ours. The state of our road is a stark contrast to the quality of education and the caliber of students we produce.”

He sited example that while institutions like Kaduna State University and Kaduna State Polytechnic have well-maintained roads and modern facilities, Kaduna State College Of Education Gidan Waya is left to languish in neglect.

He lamented that this is a clear case of policy neglect and unequal distribution of resources, which is unacceptable in a state that prides itself as the “Center Of Learning”.

“As a former student leader, I’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of this infrastructure deficit on our students, staff, and the community at large. The dust-filled roads, the accidents, and the health hazards are all symptoms of a larger problem that requires immediate attention.”

It was against this backdrop that he is calling on the Kaduna State government to take immediate action to address this issue, with a demand for a comprehensive plan to construct and maintain the College’s road, providing equal access to quality infrastructure and a conducive learning environment for all.

He urged the Kaduna state government under the leadership of Senator. Dr. Uba Sani and the senator representing southern Kaduna senatorial district Senator Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung to treat Kaduna State College Of Education Gidan Waya with the dignity and respect it deserves, and provide the necessary support to ensure the institution thrives.

“We will not be silenced, and we will not be ignored. We will continue to raise our voices until our demands are met, and our institution is treated with the respect it deserves. Together, let’s join forces to build a better Kaduna State, where every institution can thrive and contribute to the development of our great nation.” He concluded.
