Hardship Adamawa suffers 2-day power blackout as NLC strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has recently shut down the Yola Electricity Development Company for alleged illegal termination of over 80% of its workforce following its acquisition by Quest Electricity Nigeria Ltd.

Adamawa state NLC chairmam, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, led the operation along with the Vice President of National Union of Electricity and Allied Employee (NUEE) Comrade Ojochide Aghata.

The duo during their talks with the Government and the process has not been completed before laying off the workers. Kwache said, “as a labour movement we will not fold our arms while some people take the laws into their hands hence the new owners must follow due process.
According to Fashe, “we have written letters to them which there was no responded to and they even went ahead to increase the tariff by over 200%”.
Also, Comrade Ojochide said the negotiation between the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) were still ongoing with the Quest management hence we demand that the process should be followed to the letter so as to serve fairness and justice’. On the development, organized labour pickttes YEDC over retrenchment of workforce and tariff increment.
Meanwhile, owners of Quest Electricity Nigeria Ltd and the organized labour were holding talks at the offices of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) which is expected the outcome of that meeting.
During the meeting at the DSS, organized labour and other parties yielded no results.
