The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in collaboration with the National Assembly and Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, successfully conducted a free medical outreach at the General Hospital, Dass Local Government Area, Bauchi State, on December 14, 2024.
The outreach, which targeted close to 1,000 patients, provided essential medical services, including general outpatient consultations, free medications, and assistive devices.
Surgeries for various conditions were also performed at no cost, offering much-needed relief to many beneficiaries.
The medical team comprised highly skilled professionals, including medical doctors with consultants from various specialties, nurses, anesthetists, health records attendants, pharmacists, and other essential healthcare providers. Their collective expertise ensured the success of the outreach program.
Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Kabir, a Consultant Gynecologist with ATBUTH Bauchi and the team leader for the outreach, coordinated and organized the activities.
He emphasized the importance of such interventions in addressing healthcare gaps and providing care to underserved communities.
“This outreach aims to alleviate the suffering of patients who cannot afford medical treatment while also promoting overall community health,” Dr. Kabir stated.
He further commended the efforts of all medical personnel who sacrificed their time and expertise to make the program a success.
“This initiative demonstrates the power of teamwork in delivering healthcare services. I appreciate every member of the team for their hard work, and I hope this outreach inspires further interventions to reach even more people in need,” Dr. Kabir added.
Dr. Kabir also expressed gratitude to individuals, organizations, and stakeholders who supported the outreach program, emphasizing that their contributions were instrumental to its success.
“The support we received from partners, sponsors, and volunteers has made a tremendous difference in achieving the program’s goals. Their dedication to improving healthcare delivery is truly commendable,” he noted.
He further assured that sufficient medical consumables and supplies were utilized to cater to the targeted number of patients.
“We ensured that all necessary materials, including medications, surgical supplies, and assistive devices, were adequately provided to meet the needs of the beneficiaries,” Dr. Kabir emphasized.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude for the intervention, noting that the free treatment had provided timely relief for their medical challenges.
A beneficiary, Malam Ibrahim Musa, commended the initiative, saying, “I couldn’t afford surgery for my condition, but this outreach gave me a chance to regain my health without spending a kobo.”
Another beneficiary, Aisha Umar, who received free medications and assistive devices, expressed her appreciation, stating, “This program has been a blessing. I feel better now, and I thank the organizers for their kindness.”
