The Traditional Ruler of Atani Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Augustine Azuka Ngoddy has appealed to members of general public to refrain from crowded environment as directed by the state government.
This followed increasing apprehension over cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
The monarch, who was exchanging views with newsmen at his Palace in Atani, urged the public to heed to the directive of the government and observe good personal hygiene.
He enjoined individuals, who might have come in from outside the country to quarantine themselves or rush to designated medical centres to receive urgent medical attention.
“It is unfortunate that some religious leaders in Nigeria have continued to disobey government’s directive on shutting down Churches; Churches are some of the centres, where people gather in large numbers.
“If we encourage such gatherings, it will drastically reduce chances of spread of the pandemic.
“I must commend the Government of Anambra State over prompt statement released by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu on March 25, at which it mandated the public and private schools to close until further notice.
“The directive from State Government is to help measures evolved to fight against spread of Coronavirus,” Igwe Ngoddy stated.
The Traditional Ruler then urged “on personal grounds, ensure frequent hand-washing with soap; use hand sanitiser regularly.
“Avoid handshakes, maintain social distancing, and let us embrace God and ask for His Divine intervention; in your closet pray fervently.
“I commend our visionary leader, Governor Willie Obiano for his doggedness and prompt intervention in tackling this deadly disease. May God bless him,” the monarch said.
