By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi
Parents of nine trafficked children in Bauchi State have appealed to the Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and his wife, Aisha Bala Mohammed to as a matter of urgency intervene and rescue their children from captivity.
The parents, Turaki Dansa, Chawa Dangaladima Turaki, Kori Guyina, Shehu Shanaki, Bawa Turaki, Adamu Shamaki and Awal Musa made the appeal while speaking to journalists at the NUJ Press Center on Wednesday.
Their Spokesperson, Musa Kwana who is the traditional ruler of the community stated that unless the Governor and his wife intervened in the situation, they may never see their children again.
Names of the children abducted are: Sangi Turaki, Cikawa Turaki, Danjuma Turaki, Yangawa Dogo Talangu, Bebi Bawa, Jumolo Dangaladima, Kangaya Kori, Jummai Adamu and Alti Shehu all of Miya Village in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State.
The parents also alleged that the total amount of money so far extorted from them in the name of rescuing their children amounted to the sum of N470,000.00.
The parents lamented that what started as a religious trust has turned out to become betrayal and outright act of premeditated crime and inhuman action.
According to the Spokesperson, “Now that we have tried everything humanly possible for several years since the incident happened in 2014 and could not get a positive result, we want the Governor and his Wife to step in and wipe our tears. We want to see our children.”
He however said that,”Three of the children have been rescued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where they were sold to by the abductors. They are presently with the NAPTIP office there. We want to know the whereabouts of the other Six.”
According to him, “We went to Port Harcourt, spent 4 days but did not see the children, we don’t understand what is happening, the Police is not telling us the truth about the situation. We believe that as soon as the Governor intervenes, things will change.”
He added that, only One of the suspects has been arrested and in the custody of the Bauchi State Police Command wondering why others are not yet arrested.
All the parents who took turn to speak on the issue expressed disgust over the development saying that they were not expecting the turn of events which started mutually.
They variously appealed to the Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and his wife, Aisha to act as they had done before to rescue their children and reunite them.
