HIV/AIDS alarming in Adamawa rural areas, public urged not to patronise herbalists, traditional doctors

The public have been advised to go for medication instead of patronising herbalists or traditional doctors.
This is because the rate of HIV/AIDS infection in Adamawa state is on the increase, as over 37,000 people are currently receiving drugs and treatment in the state.
The Head of HIV AIDS control and prevention in the Adamawa state agency for the control of HIV AIDS, Dr Muhammad Mahmood disclosed this an interview to journalists in Yola.
Dr Mahmood noted that, the agency is fully engaged in guiding and counseling activities aimed at reducing the rate and spread of the virus among the people in the society.
The Head of HIV/AIDs control implored the general public to remain faithful to their partners or take alternative measure so as to prevent its spread in the society.
Explaining further, he said that, the latest survey on HIV/AIDS by the National Impact Indicator Survey (NIIS), shows Adamawa state with a prevalence of 1.2 infection, and the major case came from the rural areas.
According to him, HIV/AIDS prevention and eradication is a multi sectoral tasks that requires total collaboration with other sectors such as education, youth and sports, women affairs, the media and traditional institution among others.
He urged the general public to discard the idea of taking drugs and medicine from the herbalists and traditional doctors for the overall interest of the nation.
